Why Sexual Passion and Marriage

God created men and women. God created sexual desire between men and women. God also instituted marriage in human society. This issue is important to every person and human society. Everyone spends a certain portion of his or her life in sexual relationships. Our world puts a lot of emphasis on this.

Reproduction is the natural reason of sex. Everyone is expected to be born and brought up in a normal family. It is God’s design for a man and a woman to make a family, have children, and raise them in a healthy environment. However, producing and developing the next generation is not necessarily the only reason for having a family. It is equally important that two people make a commitment in front of God to share their lives. God created a way for them to enjoy each other intimately. Christianity claims that this is the only case where people may have sexual relations.

The seventh commandment, “You shall not commit adultery,” relates to this issue. A person who wants to be pure in the eyes of God can’t have a sexual relationship with anyone except the marriage partner of the opposite sex. A person who violates this commandment, like any other commandment, will still be considered pure after true confession and repentance, because Jesus Christ was crucified for any believer’s sins. A Christian also needs to stay away from pornography or similar things that may lead one into temptation. God gave us this commandment to keep us away from troubles.

All things in the world may cause troubles, and sexual passion is no exception. This issue sometimes becomes a mess in our world and has the potential to ruin a person's life. One may have a perverted sexual desire that is hard to cure. One may commit terrible crimes for his or her extreme love or hate. Controlling sexual desire is a lesson that everyone must learn; it is also a basic expectation of society.

On the premise of not violating the regulations of society, a person of a certain age is expected to find his or her mate. The issue of love and hate between men and women is a source of bliss and sorrow for all people. The importance of these affairs is unreasonably exaggerated in novels, movies, and television dramas. However, they reflect our real experiences to a certain level. When good things happen to someone, he or she imagines that he or she is the happiest person in the world. When bad things happen to someone, he or she wishes that God had never created such things. Are there some important reasons for these things to exist?

Maybe the following are reasons. To find an ideal partner, men and women have to build friendships with others. During this process people may practice the golden principle, “Do as you would be done by.” Sometimes others don’t return what we do for them. That’s the exact meaning of this principle. We have to do good things for others first, although they will not necessarily do the same in return.

There is a romantic belief among Christians according to the mainstream ideas of Christianity. Two people become husband and wife because God has joined them. A believer is asked to search for God’s mind to make one of the most important decisions of his or her life. One may see whether a person is the right one whom God prepared for him or her by feelings or through events happening in real life. Through prayer for this issue, or other issues, one may learn more about the faithfulness of God, and how to communicate with him.

There is also a classical explanation for sexual passion and marriage. It illustrates the relationship between people and God. God expects this relationship to look like the love, affection, dependency, and intimacy between couples. In the Bible, Jesus Christ is compared to a husband, and the church is compared to his wife. The Christian faith is a commitment similar to the commitment of a marriage.

Sexual passion and marriage are beautiful things when God instituted them. They become a mess sometimes, but this is not what God wishes to see. Our world was deeply harmed by sin, the consequence of our free will. The greater blessings they can be, the more harmful they are when perverted. This is how Christianity explains why serious troubles sometimes arise because of them.
